Raeola Imlay Connell, age 78, passed away Sept. 10, 2012, in St. George, Utah, due to complications after suffering a stroke. She was born May 28, 1934, to George and Ina Humphries Imlay in Hurricane, Utah.She graduated from Hurricane High School and just celebrated her 60th class reunion. She married Deon Connell August 1, 1953, in Las Vegas, Nevada. While Deon was serving in the Army, she worked as a waitress at Dick's Café to support her family. Raeola was a wife, mother, and homemaker until 1964 when Deon and Raeola started Utah Monument Company; which is still open for business after three generations.
Raeola loved to travel. She was always the first to be packed and ready to go. Whether trekking across the United States with friends or taking the 5th Wheel to Death Valley for the Fiddlers Convention and on to Quartzite, Arizona, for the winter for the last 28 years.
Raeola's Christmas lights were the best on the block. The Spectrum even voted them the best in the City. For the last 59 years, Raeola always hosted Thanksgiving and Christmas at her home taking pride in preparing all the meals. She was a perfectionist in her appearance, home, gardening, and candy making for Christmas. Her home was always open for family, friends and neighbors. She will be dearly missed by everyone who knew her.
She is survived by her husband, Deon Connell of St. George, UT; children, Mike (Koie) Connell of St. George, UT, Karen (Tom) Creagh of Las Vegas, NV, Gary Connell of St. George, UT; 5 grandchildren, Cari, Clint (Sara), and Caitlin Connell, and Rachel and Rebecca Creagh and 1 great-grandchild, Rylee Kent; brothers, Blaine Imlay of St. George, UT, LeGrande Imlay of Hurricane, UT, and Barton Imlay of Pine Valley, UT. She is preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Frank Imlay.
