Roger Wayne Simper(Doc) Simper passed away at age 61 on March 11,2009. He was born to Wayne and Lilly Schmidt Simper in Salt Lake City, Utah on March 10, 1948. Roger attended schools in Midvale where he graduated from Hillcrest High School. In his senior year he represented Hillcrest as a Sterling Scholar in the category of general scholarship.
Roger served mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Norway and completed it in Fontana, California.
Roger served in the US Army as medical specialist. While stationed at Ft. Leonardwood, he met and married Deborah Nightingale. They had a son Erik Roger Simper. They were later divorced.
Roger attended college at Cedar City SUU. He worked for the Social Security Administration in Salt Lake City and in Cedar City. For the past 19 years Roger has made his permanent residence in Cedar City where he enjoyed the community so much. In his adult life, Roger has lived with many infirmities. He was able to find fulfillment and purpose with his son Erik and his family. He enjoyed time spent in the mountains, appreciating the beauties of nature. He was a great fan of sports and enjoyed sharing time with friends as they watched the events together. A special thank you to Roger’s friends for their support, encouragement, and help over the years. Roger is survived by his son Erik Roger Simper (Jodi) and their sons Alex, Aidan, and Connor of Rio Rancho, New Mexico, and his sister Pamela Simper Goff of West Jordan.
A memorial service will be held for Roger on Saturday March 14, 2009 at 11:00am at Southern Utah Mortuary. Friends may call one hour prior to services at Southern Utah Mortuary on Saturday. Graveside services will be held on Monday March 16, 2009 at noon in the Larkin Sunset Gardens at 1905 East 10600 South Sandy, Utah Online Condolences can be sent to www.southernutahmortuary.com
