Sam Pynor Pritchard - 10/28/2005

Class of 1935

PAROWAN - Sam Pynor Pritchard, 88 passed away October 28, 2005 at the care center in Beaver, Utah. He was born November 28, 1916 to Sidney and Nellie Dover Pritchard in Parowan Utah.

He spent his early years on the family farm and came to town in the winters. He graduated from Parowan High and went on to college. He attended the University, now known as SUU, for two years. He was drafted into the army where he saw action in both Japan and the Phillippine Islands.

He married Doris Sharples on April 25, 1942 in Las Vegas Nevada. After the war they moved back to Parowan. He took over the farm and continued to manage it for many years. He went on to own and operate several of his own service stations.

He was well known for his love of thoroughbred horses and raced many of them through out the western states. Over the course of his racing career he won many trophies of which he was very proud of.

He definitely was a avid Jazz fan, spending many hours in front of the TV watching their games.

He served in the American Legion for a great number of years, many of them as the commander.

He is survived by his wife Doris of 62 years, three children Patricia (Mateo) Perez Henderson, NV. Judy Lister Parowan, Utah, Mike (Lauri) Pritchard Parowan, Utah and special friend Douglas Lister. He is also survived by thirteen grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren with one more on the way, and one great-great grandchild. He was proceeded in death by his parents, three brothers, three sisters, his daughter Susanne, and two great-great grandsons.
