Kenneth Benson Mitchell passed away at his home in Yerington, Nev., early on April 24, 2010. He was 86 years of age.Ken was born in Parowan, Utah on June 8, 1923, the son of Frank Carlyle Mitchell and Phebe Benson Mitchell. He was raised in Parowan, Utah and graduated from Parowan High School.
He was a veteran having served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Artillery Division from 1942-1946 with a tour in Europe.
He married LaRue Barton in 1946 in Las Vegas, Nev.
Ken worked very hard all his life, retiring from Anaconda Copper and then working for the Yerington Irrigation District until six years ago, stepping down at the age of 80.
He was a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Ken is survived by his loving and devoted wife of over 63 years, LaRue; their four sons, Dale, Russell, Tony and Cash; Ken’s four sisters, Maytha Boardman of Parowan, Roena Benson of St. George, Betty Schoppmann of Cedar City and Nola Palmer of Reno, Nev.; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Carlyle Mitchell.
Services were May 1, 2010 in Yerington, Nev. at the LDS Chapel. The burial was in the Valley View Cemetery in Yerington with military honors.
