Mildred Mackerell Draper - 7/10/2005

Class of 1937

Beaver - Mildred Mackerell Draper, 86, died July 10, 2005 at home amid family and friends. She was born in Beaver, Utah to Walter & Margery Adams Mackerell.

She grew up in Beaver, graduating from Beaver High School. She married Robert Lee Draper on November 1, 1941 in Beaver, Utah and their marriage was later solemnized in the St George LDS Temple. They were the parents of five children. Mildred was blessed with talents including a beautiful singing voice that grace countless funeral, programs and choirs. A self-taught pianist, she played in dance bands and enjoyed playing her organ for herself and others. She had a way with words that she shared with others in both poetry and books. She was a published author.

Her artistic talents shone in her many beautiful paintings and wedding cakes. Mildred and Bob designed and built the historical display of old Fort Cameron still on display in the Beaver County Administration Building. She was an active member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers, Dorothy Williams Camp. She served in many positions in the LDS Church. She dedicated her life to her family, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, selflessness, and compassion. She was indeed a loving wife and mother.

Survivors include sons, Marlow Lee (Sue) Draper, Raymon Keith (Wendy) Draper, Garth Walter (Kari) Draper all of Beaver, Daughters Zina Lynn Bettridge of Beaver and Laurie Kathryn (Wayne) Ritter of Aztec, New Mexico. She has 25 grandchildren, 42 great grandchildren and 6 great, great grandchildren. Sisters Bernice Mackerell, Shirley M. Howard both of Beaver and Margery M. Twitchell of Salt Lake City. She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, Doris, Beaulah, and Laurel, one granddaughter Lynn Marie Gale and one great grandson, Jacob Acker and a son-in-law, Lamont Bettridge.
