Derek enjoyed his life. He loved anything to do with the out of doors. His favorite activities were hunting and fishing, and he participated in these often. Derek's favorite team sports were baseball and basketball.As a sophomore, Derek played first trumpet in the band; in fact, he worked hard in all his classes and was often on the high honor roll. He was known for doing whatever was necessary to achieve his goals.
Derek died in an automobile accident on August 4, 1991.
