Shannon Drake Paxman - 10/3/2012

Class of 1987

Our beloved Shannon left this earthly life on October 3, 2012, after a courageous battle with cancer. Shannon was born May 27, 1969, in St. George, Utah. She was the oldest child of Douglas Howard and Helen Holt Drake, who has tirelessly cared for Shannon since her diagnosis.

Shannon grew up and spent her entire life living in St. George and Washington, Utah. She attended East Elementary and Dixie Junior High School. She graduated as an honor roll student from Pine View High School in 1987. In school, she was recognized for her writing skills and loved singing in the choir. She married her high-school sweetheart, Randy Clare Paxman, on September 8, 1990, in St. George. They were blessed with two beautiful daughters: Laikyn Jocee Paxman (15) and Landry Mae Paxman (12). As a family, they loved to spend time cheering on their favorite team, the Denver Broncos. Shannon also enjoyed watching her daughters participate in sports, especially softball. Pets were a huge part of Shannon's family life. She cherished her Persian cats and Boston Terriers, and she spent a lot of time raising and breeding them.

Shannon worked at Southern Utah Federal Credit Union, State Farm Insurance, Paxman Heating and Cooling and, most recently, in food services at Washington Elementary. Shannon enjoyed working with kids so much that she took on multiple foster children.

Shannon was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Her favorite calling was teaching the Sunbeams. She was also recently blessed to receive her endowments in the St. George Temple.

Shannon had a wonderful sense of humor and always had a good joke to tell, even to her final days. She cherished the time she spent with friends and family, and she was a great conversationalist who could talk to anyone. She always loved to have her hair and makeup done to perfection. She also liked reading, boating, camping, decorating, scrapbooking, and collecting dolls and memorabilia.

She is survived by her husband: Randy Paxman; daughters: Laikyn and Landry Paxman; parents: Douglas and Helen Drake; sisters: Delanie (Kenyon) Staheli and Kristen (Scotty) Brinkerhoff; brothers: Kory (Allison) Drake, Derick Drake, and Dustin (Angie) Drake; in-laws: Kelly and Shanna Paxman, Trisha Fife, and Austin and Lorna Iverson; grandmother: Betty Lytle Drake; and numerous extended family. She is preceded in death by her grandfather: Howard Drake; grandparents: Woodruff and Dorithy Holt; and nephew: Chantz Drake.

The family would like to express our appreciation to the staffs at both Dixie and Huntsman Cancer Centers and all of Shannon's doctors, nurses, and hospice workers from Applegate Hospice who helped take care of Shannon through her many treatments, especially Gina and Barbara for all you did for us. We also give a special thanks to all our friends, family, and neighbors who have supported Shannon through your kindness, love, and prayers.
