Lola Lang Cox - 12/27/2011
Class of 1953
Tuesday, December 27, 2011 a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother left this earth to return home to loving Heavenly parents. She was a treasured friend, a precious sister, and an angel. She was truly one of the Lords' choicest daughters. Lola Lang Cox was born April 1, 1934, to Albert and Zella Hall Lang in St. George, Utah, where she spent her life loving the red hills and people of Dixie. After she attended Dixie High School, she married Grant W. Cox in the St. George Temple. After 22 years of marriage and raising their five children together, Grant and Lola went their separate ways. Her five children were the love of her life. As grandchildren and great-grandchildren arrived she delighted in each one.Lola genuinely loved everyone. Besides her family she enjoyed a bountiful network of loyal friends whom she called and stayed in close contact with. She was esteemed as a true Saint by those who knew her. Lola was soft spoken and never spoke ill of anyone. She was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Lola served diligently in her callings and later devoted much of her time to temple work.
One of the highlights of her life was receiving an award from her classmates for being a "true friend to everyone." Another highlight came when her very first grandchild, a baby girl, was born on her 39th birthday.
All those acquainted with Lola will also know George Kenly McGarry. Kenly and Lola shared a long lasting devoted friendship.
Lola loved LDS, Classical and Country Western music. She enjoyed watching musicals and the Lawrence Welk show. She took every opportunity to attend the Heritage Choir, and other musical performances at the Tabernacle and Tuacahn, of course, with Kenly right by her side. Kenly and Lola enjoyed many wonderful outings together.
Lola's family and friends will miss her, though they know how thrilled she is now to be reunited with her own dear mother whose untimely death came when Lola was 9 years old. Lola's life was hard, but she always thought it was good. She was always "on the go", always striving to do her personal best, and she stayed focused on finding the most joy in her life journey.
Lola is survived by George Kenly McGarry (her attentive companion of 23 years); her five children, Melva (John) Boyce, DeAnna (Creig) Maynes, LaVon Cox (ReJoyce Oliphant), LaRon Cox, Rena Johnson; 26 grandchildren and 46 great-grandchildren (with 2 more on the way); sister, Valda Slack; brothers, Wayne Lang, Grant (Carolyn) Lang, Delmer Lang and Glen Lang. She is preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Zella Lang; her brother, Verl Lang; grandson, Curtis Wilton Maynes; brother-in-law, Lloyd Slack; and sisters-in-law, Ann Lang, Velda Lang, and Lois Lang.
