Jay "Blayne" Barton - 1/8/2011

St. George, Utah - Loving husband, father, brother and grandfather, Jay “Blayne” Barton passed away January 8, 2011 surrounded by his family and friends, after a valiant battle with dementia. Born in St. George, Utah, on March 10, 1930 to Alma Ross Barton and Wilhelmina Alice Cannon. Blayne, one of ten children, spent his childhood in St. George working for his father at the family gas station. After graduating form Dixie High School in 1947, Blayne spent two summers working as a telephone lineman in Alaska.

On March 30, 1950, Blayne married the love of his life, Evelyn Renae Nordberg, in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. Blayne and Evelyn were happily married for over 60 years. Together they raised five beautiful children. During their 60 years together, Blayne and Evelyn lived in several different communities throughout Utah and enjoyed serving in many local organizations.

Blayne was always known for his strong work ethic. From 1949 to 1982, Blayne worked for Mountain Bell and American Bell. While with American Bell, Blayne ans his family spent three years in Tehran, Iran. After retiring from Mountain Bell, Blayne and Evelyn spent two years in Saudi Arabia while he worked for Ralph Parsons. After finishing his career with Ralph Parsons, Blayne and his wife retired to St. George.

Blayne was devoted to his family and loved to be in their company. For many years, Blayne enjoyed large family gatherings at their cabin in Pine Valley or their home in St. George. Blayne will always be remembered as a generous and loving individual. He willingly helped whenever called upon, and brought joy to those around him.

Blayne was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. As a member of the church, Blayne and his wife enjoyed 21 years of dedicated temple service. In 1995, Blayne was ordained a sealer in the St. George LDS Temple. One of the great joys of Blayne’s life was performing sealing ordinances for his family and friends.

Blayne is preceded in death by his father and mother Ross and Alice Barton; his brothers and sisters, A. Mason Barton, Arva Barton Carroll, Nedra Barton, A. Bruce Barton, Ellen Barton Heeren, Rula Barton Bonadurer, MarGene Barton Rowley, and David Cannon Barton Blayne is survived by his wife, Evelyn; his sister, Myrna Gaye Barton (Russ) Bateman; his son, Robert Jay (Debra Sue) Barton; his daughters: Jo-Lynn B. Hatch, Kaye B. (Sam) Clemmons, Robyn B. (Ken) Boren and DaNell B. (Burton) Roberts; 20 grandchildren and their spouses; and 35 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 13, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the Bloomington LDS 1st Ward Chapel, 200 West Brigham Road, St. George, Utah. Visitations will be held Wednesday, January 12th form 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Metcalf Mortuary, 288 West St. George Blvd. and on Thursday from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the Chapel, prior to services . Interment will be at the St. George City Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to the care of Metcalf Mortuary, (435) 673-4221.
