Paul Lamar Lamoreaux passed away on March 17, 2011 at home with his loving wife ArJean by his side at the age of 75. He was born on September 14, 1935, in St. George, Utah, the son of Arvil Archie Lamoreaux and Beatrice Carter Lamoreaux. He married his sweetheart ArJean Millett on May 15, 1959 in the St. George, Utah Temple.Paul was a member of the LDS Church, was called in 1956 to serve as a missionary to the Northern States Mission serving in Illinois and Iowa. He served in many callings including a Bishopric, High Priest Group leadership, Explorer Post leader and a Gospel Doctrine teacher many times. He was a very gifted speaker, teacher, and touched many with his inspired abilities, devoted to genealogical research, spending many long hours tracing his ancestors and doing research. His family includes a legacy of many pioneer ancestors who helped settle Paragonah and St. George.
His occupations have included working in a plant nursery, an engineering assistant/surveyor, construction, later in the mining industry as a prospector and owner of two mining businesses. Paul served in the National Guard, trained in special forces, with 6 months of active duty for the 213th FSC at Ft. Chaffee, Arkansas, and in Ft. Ord, California. He received his education in St. George schools and graduated from Dixie High School in 1958, and attended Dixie College.
He loved being outdoors and in the mountains, with his family, mining gems, minerals and alabaster for 43 years, he assisted many Native Americans and other sculptors. He was a farmer and rancher, pioneered and built the family ranch at Summit, Utah, growing vegetables, raising thousands of birds, grew flower and vegetable gardens at his home in Parowan. He loved Parowan for the cool night air and water, the time spent watering the gardens and tending to his ranch, accompanied by his grandchildren and family. Paul loved to hunt and fish, taking his family on many trips, including those to Panguitch Lake and fly fishing in Yellowstone. He was an avid storyteller and loved to sing as he drove in the truck on his many trips. He loved geology and the mysteries of the earth, he spent many happy days exploring for minerals, usually with his family.
Paul loved his family so much, they meant so much to him. His children and grandchildren will miss his stories, his teaching and wisdom, prospecting, rockhounding and exploring Utah with Grandpa, and helping him at the ranch. He taught us how to work, to love the Lord, the importance of family and to love each other. He is dearly loved by his family and many friends, we will miss him, and we look forward to seeing him again.
Paul is survived by his wife, ArJean Millett Lamoreaux, his children Laurie (Andy) Perry, Ben (Linda) Lamoreaux, Rachel (Jeff) McKean, Adam (Mary) Lamoreaux, and Marcus (Leslie) Lamoreaux; 18 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his brother Orval Bruce, and his parents Arvil Archie and Beatrice Carter Lamoreaux.
