Darrell J Cook, 78, of Pleasant Grove passed away Sunday, August 30, 2020 at the VA Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was born January 3, 1942 in American Fork, Utah to Jack Earl and Beth Wanlass Cook. He married Karma Thornton on October 1, 1965 and together had three children. They were later divorced.Darrell grew up in Pleasant Grove and graduated from Pleasant Grove High School in 1960. He served in the
U S Army as an Air Traffic Controller during the Vietnam War from 1967-69. He spent nine months of that time in Vietnam. He graduated from Brigham Young University in 1972 with a BS Degree in Mechanical Engineering. Darrell worked in various engineering roles during life and retired in 1998. He served Pleasant Grove City on the Planning Commission for many years.
Darrell loved old cars, especially GTOs, and attended many car shows in his day. He loved to tinker and do engineering projects in his house and yard. Darrell helped many people and will be dearly missed by family and friends.
He is survived by his three children: Tracy (Jason) Sorensen, Lewiston, Utah; Andrea (Brett) West, Ferron, Utah; Tony Cook, Saratoga Springs, Utah; seven grandchildren: Nicole, Mckay, Zachery, Amanda, Mikellie, Sabrina and Chloe; three great grandchildren: Evie, Amelia and Ellie; two brothers: Jim (Diane) Cook and Tom (Muriel) Cook. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A public viewing for Darrell will be held Friday, September 4, 2020 from 10 -11:30 am at Olpin Family Mortuary, 494 South 300 East, Pleasant Grove. Graveside services will follow the viewing in the Pleasant Grove City Cemetery at 12:00 noon. Military honors will be conducted by American Legion Post 72.
