Clifford Lloyd Bezzant - 10/6/2011

Class of 1948

Clifford Lloyd Bezzant passed away peacefully at his home, Thursday, October 6, 2011. Cliff was born April 1, 1930 in Farmington, Utah to Glen Lloyd and Luretha Smith Bezzant. He was the youngest of the four Bezzant children. When he was three years old, he had a severe mastoid ear infection which left him deaf.

At the age of five he moved with his family to Pleasant Grove to develop their family orchard. He attended schools in Pleasant Grove and graduated from Pleasant Grove High School. He attended Utah State and Brigham Young Universities and Utah Technical College. In 1957, he married Ruth Richards, and they were later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple. They built a home on the family farm and never left. Together they had ten children who all call Pleasant Grove their home.

He worked for 30 years at Deseret Chemical, which was part of Tooele Army Depot. During that time he also operated his portion of the family fruit farm. He peddled truckloads of fruit with his father, brothers, and his children to many parts of Utah. His children have treasured memories of helping in the orchard and selling the fruit. Despite his hearing loss, Cliff was very friendly and outgoing. He had friends and acquaintances everywhere he went. One of his greatest pleasures was that he was able to drive up until the day he died.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth, two brothers, Robert and Jim (Bonnie), children: Howard (Jolene), James (Barbarajean), Karla (Jack) Kennedy, Diane (Gary) Ogborn, Kathryn, Kristin Calder, Dale (Jessica), and Rachel (Tony) Anderson. He is also survived by 36 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren (with 3 on the way).

He was preceded in death by his sister Virginia Loader, two children, Arlen Bezzant and Laura Kleinman, and son-in-law, Duane Calder.

The spirit now hears what the mortal could not.
