Douglas Beck, 86, of Provo, Utah passed away peacefully in his room at Legacy Village of Provo on October 29, 2017 with his daughter and grandson at his side. Douglas and his twin Ardena were born to Wesley and Sadie Beck on April 29, 1931 in Pleasant Grove, Utah where he grew up.He graduated from Pleasant Grove High School where he and Ardena were Homecoming Queen and King. He graduated from BYU with a degree in education in 1953 and got his master’s degree from BYU in 1964. Doug was a gifted athlete and his passion was sports, especially basketball and football. Some of his favorite memories were from playing on the championship all church and all Navy teams. He also had fond memories from playing for BYU. He loyally followed BYU sports up until the day before he passed at which time he was visited by a host of BYU football players who thanked him for his loyal lifetime support. During his career he coached high school basketball and football teams to win state championships. Something he was very proud of. He taught high school for many years in California and then returned to Utah to finish out his career and to retire. During his 45 years in education he had very fond memories of students and fellow facility. He was a passionate believer in being well informed.
Douglas is survived by his son Robert Beck, daughters Julia Atwood and Sharon Evans, eight grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his sisters, Ardena Beck and Maurine Jorgensen, and brothers, Reed A. Beck, and Merrill Beck. A private graveside service will be held on Thursday, November 9, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at Pleasant Grove cemetery.
Graveside services will be held Thursday, November 9, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. in the Pleasant Grove City Cemetery with military honors conducted by American Legion Post 72.
