Arlo A Walker 89 passed away February 22, 2011 while under the gentle care of the Charleston Assisted Living Center in Cedar Hills.He was born in Lindon, Ut. on October 2, 1921 to Arthell and Luella Walker; the oldest of five sons.
Arlo was drafted into the Army Air Corps during World War II and served in China, Burma and India. As he put it: "I saw the world".
He married Dorothy Hancock in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on March 6, 1942 and later, they bought a small home in Pleasant Grove on Locust Avenue and remodeled it. They lived there for over 60 years. Together they have eight children. Larry (Jeanie) currently serving a mission in Australia, Irene Dalsing, (Lyle), LuWayne (Linda) Lynae Savage(Mike), Keith (Sandy), Lorene Mace(Harold), Arlis Svedin (Doug) , and Corey (Wendy) , also 43 grandchildren and 62 great-grandchildren so far.
He loved to irrigate and tend his garden and enjoyed the results at dinner many times. He spent hours in his wood shop making many things with his hands, including curio cabinets for the house, dressers for the bedrooms, folding stools for his family and grandkids, and many pieces of art that he created with his scroll saw.
He really delighted in camping and looked forward to when he could go hunting or fishing with his brothers and members of his family. He and Mom were members of the Happy Hobo's of the Good Sam's Club and enjoyed the many friendships they made.
He served in many church callings: fishing with the scouts in the High Uinta Mountains, as a stake missionary and later, he and Dorothy served as a couple in Washington State. He served as a counselor in a Bishopric with Mack Palmer. He enjoyed serving and working in the temple and served as a guide during the open house of the Mount Timpanogos Temple. He loved to read his scriptures; he had the spirit of Elijah in his heart and worked hard to keep a genealogy record of his family and extended family.
He provided for the family by working in the Foundry at Geneva Steel and retired after 37 years.
He said "It was a good life; it was a hard life" We will miss you Dad.
He is survived by his brothers Howard and Sterling, and all of his children, and preceded in death by his parents, His bride Dorothy of 67 years, two brothers Lloyd and Glade, and five grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Saturday February 26th at 11:00 am in the Grove Ward Chapel, 455 East 200 South, Pleasant Grove. Friends and family may attend a viewing on Friday, February 25th, from 6-8 p.m. at Olpin Family Mortuary, 494 South 300 East, Pleasant Grove and at the church one hour prior to services on Saturday. Interment will be in Pleasant Grove City Cemetery. Military honors will be conducted by American Legion Post 72.
