Calvin Bullock Mills - 2/1/2008

Class of 1941

Calvin Bullock Mills passed way on February 1, 2008 after 3 years of striving with kidney failer, and 1 year on dialysis treatment. He was born on July 4, 1923 in Pleasant Grove, Utah. He was born to Joseph and Jannett Bullock Mills. Calvin was the second of six children, Ray, Martha Ann Mills Liston, Mary Mills Wadley, Ruth Mills Paul, and Lucille Mills Harris.

Calvin attended Pleasant Grove High School, and after graduation he was drafted into the navy in 1941 where he served on the USS South Dakota battleship. He served his country in the South Pacific for four years. He married Maybelle Beck of American Fork, Utah on August 8, 1944 in the Logan Temple. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and a friend to many.

His service to the community was a value that was important to him. He served in the Pleasant Grove Chamber of Commerce, owned Cal's Repair in Pleasant Grove for 20 years. In addition, he was a volunteer Fireman for Pleasant Grove City where he served for 40 years, he had the honor of serving as the Fire Chief, and he was a High Priest in the Grove Ward LDS Church.

Calvin loved the outdoors, he enjoyed fishing, hunting and camping with his wife and son. After retirement, he and Maybelle had the experience of traveling to Alaska three times with their life long friends, Glenn and Dolores Barrett. He had the time of his life catching salmon and viewing the wildlife and wilderness of Alaska. In addition, Calvin took his family to Oregon to fish, go crabbing and enjoying the beautiful coast and ocean most every summer; he also made sure that our family could have a vacation week together each year.

His wife of 64 years, Maybelle Beck Mills, his son Calvin B., and his daughter Rebecca Lynn (Jon) Christeson survive Calvin. He is also survived by two grandchildren, Cameron Christeson, and Ashley Christeson; one sister, Lucille (Paul) Harris, and one sister-in-law, Lilly (Ray) Cullimore. He is preceded in death by his parents Joseph Mills, and Jannett Bullock Mills, his brother Ray Mills, three sisters Mary (Cliff) Wadley, Martha Ann (Gaylon) Liston and Ruth (George R.) Paul.

The family would like to give special thanks to Jay and Nichole Griffith, Evelynn Tanner and family, and the Sampson family. As well as the Doctor's and staff at DaVita Dialysis Center.
