Ira Mahonri Judd - 9/2/2017

Class of 1946

Ira M. Judd, 89, passed away peacefully at his home in Pleasant Grove September 2, 2017 of natural causes.

He was born April 26, 1928 in Sutherland, Utah to Daniel Ray and Lila Steele Judd, the second of six children. As a boy he received his Eagle Scout badge and graduated from Pleasant Grove High School in 1946. He then enlisted in the army for 18 months serving in Okinawa.

He married Dorothy Gayle Kirk on October 16, 1951, in Elko Nevada, before leaving on his mission to the Western States. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.

Ira and Gayle lived in Tooele for a short time before building a house in Pleasant Grove. They are the parents of five children: Marilyn Ruth (Glen Walker), Darrel Ray (Lori Chamberlain), Daniel Rex (Victoria Evans), Gayle Lynne (Kent Yocom), and Douglas Reese (Lupe Leota) Judd.

Ike, as he was called, worked at Dugway Proving Grounds for most of his career. He attended BYU for three years, but went back to work to support his family before he could graduate.

He served in several church callings including, finance clerk and Sunday school president.

Dad loved wood working, fishing, camping and reading. He could fix anything and found creative solutions to any problem he faced. We will miss him and his great sense of humor.

Ira is survived by his wife, Gayle, his children and his four sisters, Helga Frier, Jeniel Fugal, Ileen Johnson, and Charlotte Tracy, 22 grandchildren and 31 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents, his grandson, Douglas Reese Judd Jr. and his sister, Helen Nielsen.
