Katie Eves Schroder Bennett - 5/13/2011

Class of 1939

Katie Bennett (89) passed away peacefully on May 13, 2011, surrounded by her family and friends. Katie was born July 31, 1921, in Storrs, Carbon County, UT as the 4th of 11 children to Jasper Eves and Inez Davis. She moved with her family to Pleasant Grove when she was five years old.

Shortly after graduation from PGHS in 1939, she married LeRoy Marshall Schroder and moved to Orem. There they raised two beautiful girls. LeRoy passed away in 1988. Katie married James Ferrin Bennett in 1994 and moved to American Fork. Ferrin died in 2008.

Katie lived a life of service, centered around the people she loved and the Gospel of Jesus Christ. She was known for taking care of everyone around her. She was the second mother in the home of her youth and loved to help her mother in the kitchen -- a talent which blessed all who visited her home in future years. Katie was the baker at Utah Valley Hospital for several years. She earned notoriety every Thanksgiving when she made 200 pies and 150 dozen rolls by herself before her 5 a.m. shift began. When she left, the hospital had to hire two bakers and had to start buying some of their bread.

Katie is survived by her two children, Rose Mary (Kent) Beck and Margie K Lindsay, by 4 brothers and sisters, Donna Miner, Ilene (Wilmer) Huggins, Jay (Barbara) Eves and Connie (Eddie) Williams, and by 6 grand-, 13 great-grand, and 2 great-great-grand children who love her very much. We will remember a woman who blessed the lives of all she knew with her boundless energy and giving heart.
