Hal C. Southam - 11/27/2010

Class of 1970

Hal C. Southam, 58, passed away Saturday, November 27, 2010 due to complications from Alzheimer's disease.

Hal was born August 8, 1952 to parents Afton Lemon and Lee Southam in Spanish Fork, Utah. His family moved when he was young to Pleasant Grove where he grew up and graduated from Pleasant Grove High School. Later he received an Associate's degree from Utah Valley State College in electronics.

He was active in the LDS Church and served a two year mission in England. Hal was a hard worker and worked at the post office in Salt Lake for five years and HAFB for almost 19 years as an instrument mechanic.

He had five children with his first wife, Carol Moorehead, later divorced. He married Lee Carter Humphrey in September of 1996. She took care of him for the five years since he was diagnosed with Alzheimer's and was by his side until the very end.

Hal and his wife liked to travel and took vacations to places like Tahiti, Mexico, Las Vegas and Disneyland. Hal also loved oldies music and loved Andy Kim and The Beatles. Paul McCartney was the last concert he attended.

Hal was preceded in death by his siblings, Dean, Steven, Bob, Don, Beth, Norma and by his parents.

He is survived by his wife and brothers, Melvin (Margaret) Southam, Grand Junction, CO; Lynn (LeeAnn) Southam, Aurora, CO; Leslie (Nancy) Southam, Pleasant Grove; Kurt (Jean) Southam, Nashport, OH; and by his sisters, Jeanie (Larry) Walker, LDS Mission - Australia; Vesta St. Clair, Murray; JoAnn Brown, Salt Lake City; and Phyllis (Robert) Nielsen, Salina; five children, Rachel Brown, Trevor Southam, Brooke Southam, Kathryn (Jose) Osuna, all of Ogden; Kelsy (Jesse) Barrett, Eagle Mountain; two step-children, Carter (Kelli) Reid, Sunset; and Stephanie (Steven) Kinder, Kaysville; and nine grandchildren.
