Class of 1949

Father: Gilbert W. Richardson
Mother: Florence Gerber Richardson
Spouse: Colleen Williams | divorced
Married: 1953
Spouse: Janet Buehler Richardson
Married: 16 March 1961

Early Life: Youngest of six children and the apple of his family's eye.
Education: Pleasant Grove High School
Life's Work/Service/Interests: Owen was the 1949 Student Body President of Pleasant Grove High, winning with a write-in campaign launched by his friend. He also enjoyed playing in the band and acting in plays. He married Colleen Williams in 1953 and had three children: Alan, Anne (Roberts), and Paul. Colleen and Owen later divorced. Owen was quite a catch, and it wasn't long before Janet Buehler asked him out. They were married soon after in 1961, and sealed in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Jan brought 5 children to the marriage, whom Owen loved: Jana Lyn, Wendell, Jon, Stuart, and Tom. After 11 years of marriage, they welcomed their ‘error' (Owen's word), Kimberly (Barker). Owen managed several restaurants: the Hi-Spot Drive-In, Sizzler, Cobblestone, and others. He started his career at Kirk's Drive Inn, the hangout in Orem. Kirk's was the first restaurant in Orem to offer pizza, which landed Owen a photo and story in the newspaper. In the restaurant, he taught his children the meaning of hard work. Owen's kids can wrap baked potatoes and core iceberg lettuce like no one else. Later, Owen worked at Utah Valley University, where he ran a popular food cart and many visited for a snack and a smile. Owen cooked for church dinners, family and school reunions, and anything else asked of him. He was a true leader and was always in charge and willing to give of his time and know-how. Owen and Jan bought a boat early in their marriage and they spent many days on the water, primarily at Lake Powell. His loved ones have fond memories of these trips. Owen was the patient boat driver. He worked hard so his family would have fun and taught them all to love water. Owen's sense of humor and love of life was constantly present. He was quick with a smile or laugh. His dry wit and ability to hold a straight face kept everyone guessing. In his presence, you knew you were important and always had a good time. Owen G. Richardson peacefully passed away in his sleep on August 28, 2013, in Orem, Utah, with his wife nearby.
