Lorayn Walker (Stoddard) - 3/12/2013
Class of 1939
Our angel wife, mother, and grandmother passed away peacefully in her home on Tuesday, March 12, 2013, at the age of 91. She was born of goodly parents, Dahlia Radmall and Lawrence Ross Walker, on July 12, 1921 in Pleasant Grove, Utah, the fifth of eight children. She was raised during the Depression on a farm in Lindon with a strong work ethic and graduated from Pleasant Grove High School. After attending LDS Business College, she became a skilled stenographer working for Alpine School Board, Utah Power & Light, and Geneva Steel.During World War II, Mom met and married Aaron Ray Stoddard for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake Temple. They were married, during a furlough, before Dad was sent overseas and Mom became a "War Bride." They would have celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary on June 11th. They were blessed with seven wonderful children.
Our Mom was a magnificent, noble, compassionate woman who spent her life quietly serving others. She led an exemplary Christ-like life as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in many positions in her ward and stake. She and her husband served in the Canada Winnipeg Mission in 1990-1992. They served at the MTC as senior missionaries for many years and faithfully attended the temple. Countless loaves of her homemade bread and dozens of spudnuts were enjoyed by family, friends and neighbors. Her children, grandchildren and many great-grandchildren have been kept warm by the beautiful quilts she made. She was an avid genealogist who worked diligently on getting the Henson Walker Book reprinted for his descendants. All who knew her loved her. Her children cherish her and feel blessed to have had a wonderful, peace-maker for a mother who always put their welfare and God first. Thank you, dearest Mother.
Lorayn is survived by her husband, Aaron, their seven children; Saundra (John) Weight, Roosevelt; Ronald (Barbara) Orem; Kathleen (Kenny) Hiatt, North Carolina; Randall (Merialice) Orem; Kenneth, (Polly), Springville; Gerald (Patti), Georgia; Sheryl (Brent Beachem), Riverton; 26 grandchildren, 58 great grandchildren, and four on the way; one brother, Garth Walker, Washington; and adored nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters--Grace Fielding, Jennie Murdoch, Utahna Ballard; and three brothers-Grant, Leon, and Robert Walker.
A viewing will be held Wednesday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Walker Sanderson Funeral Home 646 East 800 North, Orem. Funeral service will be held Thursday, March 21st at 1:00 p.m. in the Suncrest 6th Ward, 891 West 130 North, Orem, with a viewing from 11:30 - 12:45 prior to the service. Burial will be in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery.
