Dale Orval Carter - 3/25/2009

Class of 1943

Dale Orval Carter, 83, of Pleasant Grove passed away March 25, 2009 from illness incident to age. He was born October 2, 1925 in Lindon to Orval L. and Caroline Shoell Carter. He came from a large family of nine brothers and three sisters. He grew up in Lindon and Pleasant Grove and graduated from Pleasant Grove High School in 1943.

He drove a truck for his father delivering coal, hay, and fruit. After serving honorably in WWII with the U. S. Army, he came home and drove truck for United Concrete Pipe Co. in Pleasant Grove. During that time he met the love of his life, LuCille “Lucy” Jense. They were a perfect match and were married October 25, 1950. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple, June 12, 1964. For the first five years of their life together, Dale drove “18 wheelers” for Dick Wells Trucking. He returned to United Concrete where he retired after 35 years.

He loved the outdoors and for many years he and his father and brothers would go deer hunting, pheasant hunting, and fishing. The family built a nice cabin at the base of Mt. Timpanogos and loved being together on hunting trips. Dale worked hard and knew how to enjoy life. He and Lucy loved to travel, especially fishing together. They bowled and played golf until time and age caused them to slow down.

Dale was a faithful member of the LDS Church. He served in quorum leadership positions and as First Counselor in the Grove Ward Bishopric.

Together Dale and Lucy had two sons: Jan Dale Carter and Chris Jense (Liza) Carter. Lucy had two children from a prior marriage: William Lynn (Betty) Anderson and Beverly Trask in addition to many loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They were a wonderful family and enjoyed a closeness which few blended families enjoy.

Dale was preceded in death by his parents, his son, Jan in 1970; brother, Boyd in 1976; and Lucy in 2006. We know that he is enjoying a wonderful reunion with those he loved. He will be greatly missed.
