Douglas Louis Robinson - 7/28/2004

Class of 1950

Douglas Louis Robinson, 71, of Pleasant Grove passed away Wednesday, July 28, 2004 surrounded by his family at UVRMC as a result of sudden heart failure. He was born October 25, 1932 in Pleasant Grove to Louis C. and Mae Hardman Robinson. He married his sweetheart Nelda Hoopes on April 9, 1952 in Pleasant Grove. Their marriage was later solemnized in the St. George LDS Temple. Doug grew up on the Robinson family farm and graduated from Pleasant Grove High School in 1950 where he excelled in all sports. He played semi-professional baseball as a catcher in the Central Utah League. Doug and Nelda built their first home in Manila where they raised their six children. Doug was employed by Geneva Steel and retired in 1985 after 37 years of service. Doug was an avid horseman, which included breeding, training, and racing horses. He achieved his lifelong dream of breeding the winner of the Worldwide Appaloosa Futurity in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He enjoyed his retirement watching his grandchildren play sports and supporting his sons-in-law softball team, the Wallbangers. He was an active member of the LDS Church and served willingly in many positions during his life. Doug had many friends and a unique sense of humor, which will be missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his wife Nelda of Pleasant Grove; six children: Kraig Robinson, Pleasant Grove; Kevin "Buck" (Lynette) Robinson, Cedar Hills; Laurie (Dave) Houston, Pleasant Grove; Shelley (Keith) Keetch, Grace, Idaho; Russell (Marianne) Robinson, Lindon; Vickey (Craig) Cook, Highland; 29 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Additional survivors include siblings: Bill (JoAnne) Robinson, Birdseye, Utah; Roland (Jane) Robinson, Pleasant Grove; Jerry (Marie) Robinson, Pleasant Grove; Joyce (Dick) White, Farmington; Floris (Roger) Olsen, Pleasant Grove; Jill (Gordon) Smith, Pleasant Grove; also a loving Hoopes Family and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services held Monday, Aug. 2, 2004 in the Manila Stake Center, 950 East 850 North, American Fork (next to the Mt. Timpanogos Temple). Interment will be in the American Fork City Cemetery.
