Thelda Lenore Gardiner (Harris) - 2/16/2012

Class of 1940

Thelda Gardiner Harris passed away on February 16, 2012.

She was born in Pleasant Grove, Utah on September 20, 1922 to Heber and Eva Gardiner. Growing up in Pleasant Grove, Thelda met and later married her high school sweetheart, Myles O. Harris, on December 4, 1941 in the Salt Lake Temple. They have lived in Orem for the past sixty years.

She was an active and faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served in numerous church callings throughout her life. While raising her family, Thelda spent many years serving in the PTA. She spent eighteen years working at BYU in the computer center prior to her retirement. Thelda and Myles were avid BYU fans.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother John S. Gardiner, and sisters Annie Bullock and Mary Lou Mayfield. Thelda is survived by her husband of seventy years, Myles, and her eight children: Jay (Marilyn) - Sandy, Utah; Terry - Shreveport, Louisiana; Calvin (Pat) - Lindon, Utah; Steven - Taylorsville, Utah; Mark - West Valley City, Utah; Julie (Ed) Burrup - South Jordan, Utah; Chris - Portland, Oregon; and Jana (Craig) Cottle - Orem Utah. She is also survived by one sister, Melba Osborn - Spokane, Washington; sixteen grandchildren; and twenty-three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 21, 2012 in the Aspen Eighth Ward Chapel, 1485 North 800 West, Orem, Utah. A visitation will be held on Monday evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Olpin Family Mortuary, 494 South 300 East, Pleasant Grove, Utah, and at the church on Tuesday from 9:30-10:45 a.m.
Interment will be in the Orem City Cemetery.
