Helen Mary Henrichsen (Sells) - 1/4/2012

Class of 1941

Helen Mary Henrichsen Wells passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, January 4, 2012.

She was born in Provo, Utah on May 24, 1923, the third child of her parents Arnold George Henrichsen and Mabel Barnes and the first to survive past infancy.

She married Lewis Franklin Wells in the Salt Lake Temple on June 15, 1942. He died October 15, 2004.

Helen is survived by eight of her nine children: Lorna (Jim Rice) of Torrance, California; Mary Lou (Kenneth Royle) of Fresno, California; Frank (Kimberli Giauque) of Farmington, New Mexico; Ann (Stuart Anderson, deceased) of Holladay, Utah; John (Joelyn Rowan) of Draper, Utah; Paul (Jone Storey) of Roosevelt, Utah; Steven (Patricia Hunsaker) of Farmington, New Mexico; and Janette (David Lewis) of Murray, Utah. She was preceded in death by her missionary son LaMar (1973), her brother Keith (2004), and her grandson Brandon (2003).

Helen grew up in Pleasant Grove, Utah, where she attended Central Elementary School and Pleasant Grove High School. She graduated as Valedictorian in 1941. She is also a former Miss Pleasant Grove.

Helen was a war bride and while her husband was stationed overseas during WW II, she lived with her parents, and when he returned, both families built homes next door to each other where Helen lived until her husband was transferred to Casper, Wyoming in January 1955.

Three years later, the family moved back to Utah, living on Millstream Avenue for one year before moving to her present home on Holladay Boulevard, where she has lived for the past fifty-five years.

Helen has been an active member of the LDS Church her entire life, serving as a Gleaner and Mia Maid Leader, and as a Relief Society President. Serving as Primary Chorister for many years has been her greatest joy.

Alert and active to the end, she recently hosted a Christmas party at which eighty-nine of her descendants and spouses were in attendance and she knew everyone by name - even the babies - and was probably the only one who did!

At the time of her passing she had thirty-three grandchildren, thirty-seven great-grandchildren, and looked forward to welcoming four new babies and two new in-law grandchildren into her family later this year. She is also survived by devoted brothers and sisters-in-law: Carol Ann Henrichsen of Pleasant Grove; Leland and Lorraine Wells of Billings, Montana; William and Colene Wells of Farmington, New Mexico; and Wilda and Des Larson of Richfield, Utah. Merlene and Harold Bailey preceded her in death. She was very loved and will be greatly missed by all.

There will be a viewing held on Sunday, January 8, 2012 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. in the Holladay Eighteenth Ward Building, 2625 East Milo Way (4910 South), Holladay, Utah. On Monday, January 9, 2012, there will be a viewing held from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 a.m. in the Holladay Eighteenth Ward Chapel.
Interment will follow in the Holladay Memorial Park, 4900 South Memory Lane (1990 East).
