Leland James "Lee" Shoell passed away of natural causes on February 1, 2010 in Orem, Utah at the age of eighty-six.He was the son of George Henry and Ethel Rose Cullimore Shoell and was born on December 1, 1923 at their home in Orem, Utah.
He graduated from Pleasant Grove High School, enlisted in the Navy, and received a medical discharge. Upon his return he worked on the construction of the Geneva Steel Plant, attended Utah State University for two years.
Lee married Donna Mae Powell on December 19, 1946 in the Salt Lake Temple. He then attended the Central Utah Vocational School, graduating as a cabinet-maker.
He worked most of his life in some type of carpentry. Lee worked for BYU Physical Plant, where he was a supervisor retiring after twenty-five years of service.
Lee is survived by his wife, and four daughters, Glenda (Dale Johnson) Twisp, Washington, Karela (Joel Berrett) Roosevelt, Utah, Leah (Derrick Whitehead) Citrus Heights, California, and Nadine (Brent Peterson) Ephraim, Utah, nine grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers; Preston and Ned, sisters; Virgie Rushton, Mae Smith, and Carma College.
Lee was easy going, hard working, fun loving, and quite a tease. He enjoyed working with wood, fishing, hunting, camping, raising cattle, and riding horses. His passion was growing a garden filled with wonderful produce. He loved spending time with his family. Much of his time was spent. He enjoyed serving in the baptistery at the temple.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday, February 8, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. in the Windsor Stake Center, 60 East 1600 North, Orem, Utah. Family and friends may call on Sunday, February 7, 2010 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Walker Sanderson Funeral Home, 646 East 800 North, Orem, and Monday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the Stake Center prior to the services.
Interment will be in the Orem City Cemetery.
