Shyrlan T. Whiteley - 2/20/2011

Class of 1949

Shyrlan T. Whiteley passed away unexpectedly on Feb 20, 2011. He was born on March 5, 1931 in American Fork, Utah to Theron and Veada Whiteley. He married Kathleen Green on Feb 20, 1950 in the Salt Lake Temple and enjoyed 61 wonderful years together. He grew up in Utah County where he developed a love for farming and horses which he maintained throughout his life. He graduated from Pleasant Grove High School and retired from Geneva Steel after 38 years.

He loved watching sports, was an avid horseman and spent a significant amount of time on his farm. These passions however, could not exceed the love and commitment he had for his family. He could be found regularly attending activities or events that involved his children, grandchildren or great grandchildren.

Shyrlan is survived by his wife Kathleen, children; Shyrleen (Michael) Shoell, Shelley (Boyd) Fenton, Kaylon (Jan) Whiteley, Laurel (Reid) Mitchell, Wayne (Lisa) Whiteley, 25 grandchildren and 34 great grandchildren, siblings; Donna Andersen, Dora Harper, LaRae Creer, Alta Mae Johnson and Ronald Whiteley. He was preceded in death by two infant daughters, Hollie Kae and Jill, his parents and his sister Carma Smith.

Funeral services will be held on Friday Feb 25, 2011 at 11:00 AM in the Pleasant Grove Stake Center, 275 East 500 South. Viewings will be on Thursday, Feb 24 from 6-8 PM at Olpin Family Mortuary, 494 South 300 East, and from 9:30-10:45 AM prior to the funeral at the Stake Center.
