Robert August Oscarson was born 21 November 1911 in Pleasant Grove, Utah. He was the fifth child of Gustaf Emil Oscarson and his wife Lovisa Wilhelmina Åkerlind; both Swedish immigrants.As a youth he attended Pleasant Grove area schools and was a member of the high school basketball team. Bob learned the value of hard work with his siblings on the family fruit farm, and left school in 1931 to help on the farm during the Great Depression.
Bob married Betty Jean Burningham of Orem, in the Salt Lake Temple on 23 February 1945. Along with raising his family of nine children, Bob was active in his community serving on the city council, as tax assessor, and as watermaster for the Pleasant Grove Irrigation Company for over 30 years, retiring at the age of 84.
He was a lifetime farmer, and also worked for the Utah State Road and Mountain States Steel. After the harvest you would find Dad with family and friends deer hunting in the mountains.
As a member of the LDS Church he served as Sunday School Superintendent, a faithful home teacher, and loved attending the Temple. At the time of his passing, he was a High Priest in the Pleasant Grove 9th Ward. Bob has a burning testimony of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Bob passed away 26 November 2001, in his hometown of Pleasant Grove, at the age of 90. At the time of his passing he was survived by his wife Betty, children: Linda (Lloyd) Laycock; Robert K.; David A. (Kathie); Anna Beth (LaMar) Mecham; Shirlee (Tom) Webb; Betty (Ed) Adams; Kathy (Bruce) King; Diane (Les) Moss; and Allen L. (Karyn); 40 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. Additional survivors included his sister, Dora Hales and sister-in-law, LaPreal Crystal. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, and four sisters.
His funeral service was held Saturday, 1 December 2001. Interment was in the Pleasant Grove City Cemetery, near his parents other other family members.
