Jack Roy Robinson, age 79, passed away peacefully February 11, 2016, in American Fork, Utah. He was born August 17, 1936, in Lehi, Utah, to his mother Elsie May Hadlock and father Ray W. Robinson. When Jack was three his mother died.His father later married June Proctor, and Jack was blessed to have six brothers and one sister. He learned about hard work growing up on a farm and herding sheep at a young age. He enjoyed nature, loved hunting, fishing, 4-wheeling ("locking hubs"), and kicking his heels dancing.
Jack observed his surroundings and had a keen eye for change. He noticed subtle changes in people such as a haircut, new jacket, etc. He was complimentary to everyone.
Jack graduated from Pleasant Grove High School in 1954, and immediately enlisted in the United States Navy, where he spent much of his time aboard the aircraft carrier, USS Princeton CVS-37. He also served as a court reporter.
Before reporting to Guam, he returned home to marry Clea May Thornton in the Salt Lake Temple, June 29, 1956. They had six children: Kevin (Monica), Ramona Smith (Marv), Brenda Cantu, Kathy Clark (Glen), Todd, and Julie Timothy (Guy). Jack and Clea later divorced.
Jack married Joan Anne Fisher, October 13, 1974, in Elko, Nevada. This marriage was later solemnized in the Manti Temple, July 17, 1980. He adopted Joan's daughter, Edna Sorrells (David). They lived in Orem, Utah, and later moved to Grand Junction, Colorado, before Joan passed away.
Jack took many classes in welding and electrical work, earned technical degrees in Business Management and Industrial Relations, and was truly a "Jack of all Trades". He worked as a foreman at Mountain States Steel, and as a superintendent at Geneva Steel. He enjoyed sales, especially selling cars at Crown Toyota.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and brother Kay. He is survived by his seven children; twenty-five grandchildren; thirty-three great grandchildren; sister-in-law Pat Robinson; five brothers Leslie (Vernice), Gary (Debbie), Jay (Jean), John, Alan (Kathy), and sister Sherry Greene (Kim).
A memorial service will be held at the grave site of his parents, in the American Fork Cemetery at 26 West 600 North, on Saturday, February 20, 2016, at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the body donor program at the University of Utah School of Medicine where Jack generously gave his body for research.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the Provo Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, the Heritage Care Center, and Pat, for over twenty years of dedication and service to Jack, as he struggled with his health challenges.
