Bessie Judd Downs (Shelton) - 9/4/2007

Class of 1939

Bessie D. Shelton, our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend passed away on September 4, 2007 in American Fork, Utah.

Bessie was born January 20, 1922 in Orem, Utah to William Alfred Downs and Florence Arminta Judd. She had three brothers and two sisters. She enjoyed school and graduated from Pleasant Grove High School. She married her sweetheart William “Bud” E. Shelton on August 2, 1939. Together they had four children. She worked in various jobs including Geneva Steel, retail and school lunch. The job she loved the most was being a homemaker and mother to her children. She and Bud traveled all over the world together. She embroidered many beautiful gifts for family and friends. She loved camping, gardening, long walks and reading.

Bessie was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and faithfully fulfilled many callings. Bessie was always willing to give selflessly of her time and serve those around her. Her example of faith and service is a great strength to her family. She loved spending time with her family and always had a kiss, a song and a dish of ice cream for her many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and gg grandchildren. Her heart knew no limits.

Funeral services will be held Friday, September 7, 2007 at 11 am at the American Fork 4th Ward Chapel, 455 E 500 N. Friends and family may visit Thursday evening, September 6, at Anderson & Sons Mortuary, 49 E 100 N, American Fork from 6 to 8 pm and at the church from 9:45 to 10:45 am prior to the services. Interment at American Fork Cemetery, 600 N Center Street.
