Don LeRoy Smith, 85, of Pleasant Grove passed away, Tuesday, January 2, 2007 at his home. Don was born June 1, 1921 in Pleasant Grove to George LeRoy "Roy" and Avis Mills Smith. He married Betty Jeanne Huntington on August 30, 1948 in Ely, Nevada. Their marriage was solemnized on May 11, 1964 in the Salt Lake Temple.Don grew up in Pleasant Grove and graduated from Pleasant Grove High in 1939. He served in U. S. Army as a Sergeant during WWII, from March 1941 to November 1945, under General George Patton in the European Theater and fought in the Battle of the Bulge.
Don worked in the family business, Smith Drug Co. in Pleasant Grove, with his father and brother, Harvey Eugene Smith and nephew Craig Smith. He served on the Pleasant Grove Volunteer Fire Department for 50 years.
He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in a Bishopric and as Financial Clerk.
As a young man, he loved to hunt and fish with his family, but his passion in life was raising registered quarter horses with his brother, Harvey.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Jeanne, Pleasant Grove; two sons: Dr. Scott L. (Cathy) Smith, Highland; Mark Smith, Pleasant Grove, son-in-law, Rex Mooseman, West Valley; 16 grandchildren and many great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Carol Lee Mooseman; parents; brothers, Harvey and Richard.
