Ellen Loretta Brady (Tregaskis) - 1/31/2007
Class of 1953
Ellen Tregaskis Heber, UTEllen Loretta Brady Tregaskis, 72, died at home on Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2007, of breast cancer.
The youngest of six children, she was born November 7, 1934, to Phydonia Stott Brady and Loren Edward Brady in Pleasant Grove, Utah, in a small log home.
She married Glade Lloyd Tregaskis on September 25, 1953, in the Salt Lake Temple, after meeting him at Strawberry Days two years earlier.
She gave birth to five girls: Tanya McBride (Michael), Idaho Falls, ID; Lynn Turner, Salt Lake City, UT; Jenny Holmes (Brad), Pleasant Grove, UT; Lisa Barrow (Evan), Hayfork, CA; and Molly Knowles (Jeff), Provo, UT.
She was a faithful and committed member of the LDS Church and enjoyed many callings.
Even when pain made her life difficult, she consistently noticed and sought out the downtrodden.
She quietly wrapped her love and compassion round us all.
Ellen's love of poetry and language filled her home and her family; books and poems line her shelves and the shelves of her daughters.
Her curiosity and intelligence fueled a lifetime study of eclectic interests including her pioneer ancestors, politics, women's rights, history, the detective novel, etc.
She taught her daughters to sew, to cook, to clean, and to think for themselves.
She loved the largeness of the world and accepted all kinds of people living all kinds of lives.
Her quick wit and searing perspectives keep us laughing still, and watching our backs.
Ellen knew what she liked; her home reflects her graceful elegance and style.
She enjoyed camping all over Utah and the West - in tents in the early days and in a motor home later on.
She especially loved to see the wheat fields of Montana in the fall and the wildflowers near Monticello in the spring.
So raise your glass or bend your knees and sing with us: to Ellen, who taught us beauty, insight, and compassion born from a life lived through pain.
We love you and swell to meet the morning with you in our hearts. Rest easy, Momma.
Ellen is survived by her husband, her daughters, her sister, three of her brothers, 13 grandchildren, and one sweet great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be held Sat., February 3, 2007 at 11 a.m. in the Heber 15th Ward, 715 East 600 South, Heber, UT.
Burial will be in the Heber City Cemetery.
Friends and family may call Friday evening from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the church or from 9:30-10:30 a.m. on Saturday, prior to the services.
