Lloyd M. Armitstead - 4/10/2009

Class of 1937

Lloyd M. Armitstead, 90, of Pleasant Grove passed away Friday, April 10, 2009 at his home. He was born January 10, 1919 in Pleasant Grove to James Herbert and Jane Nevada Lund Armitstead. He married Norma Maag on October 11, 1939 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Norma passed away in 1999. He married Wilma Peay Hutchinson, who also preceded Lloyd in death.

Lloyd grew up in Pleasant Grove and graduated from Pleasant Grove High School where he was active in track. Lloyd helped build the Deer Creek Dam with the CCC. He served in the U. S. Navy during WWII in the Pacific Theater and witnessed the original raising of the Stars and Stripes at Iwo Jima.

He worked 35 years at Geneva as a truck driver. Lloyd was a third generation fruit farmer and learned the value of hard work and honesty from his father.

Lloyd was an active member of the LDS Church and enjoyed his time serving in the branch presidency of the Alpine Care Center in addition to being a home teacher.

Lloyd lived for his family and worked hard for them. He was honest and true and served anyone in need with joy. He leaves a legacy of faith, integrity, work, service, humor, and love and will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his three children: LaVerne (Paul) Nerdin, American Fork; Lynn (Bonnie) Armitstead, Alpine; Neil (Gay) Armitstead, Pleasant Grove; 15 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and three great great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, Dale; siblings: Sue, Arthur, Harold, Ruth, Richard, Keith, and Louise.
