JOHN WESLEY LINEBAUGH - 9/3/2017

John Wesley Linebaugh, 79 of Pleasant Grove passed away Sunday, September 3, 2017. He was born May 22, 1938 to Dr. BC and Reva Jense Linebaugh. He loved growing up in Pleasant Grove surrounded by lots of family, cousins and good friends. After graduating from high school in 1956, he joined the Army serving for three years where he was trained in the medical corp. He was stationed at Fort Sam Houston in Texas, Fitzsimons Army Hospital in Denver and the Tokyo Evac Hospital in Japan.While in Denver he met and fell in love with Carol Lurlene Black. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple on August 31, 1960. John attended BYU and graduated in 1964 with a bachelors degree in microbiology and a minor in chemistry. During John’s years at BYU he and Carol were blessed with three children: Tammy, Ann and Carl. In addition to carrying a full load at school John worked at Utah Valley Hospital and was on call at 3 other hospitals.
In 1967 John started working full time at American Fork Hospital as a lab technologist. He and Carol bought their dream home in Pleasant Grove where they have lived for 50 years. Two more children joined their family after they moved to their new home: Janet then Chad. Later Emma joined their family as a student on the Lamanite Placement Program and become a loved part of their family.
John worked for Intermountain Health Care for 43 years as a lab technologist and completed his career as a laboratory administrator. He enjoyed the people he worked with-employees, pathologists and the IHC corporate office people. He was responsible for the IHC laboratories in Utah County and six laboratories in southern Utah. He received a “District Manager Award” for his great service.
When their children were grown, John and Carol served a mission for the LDS church to San Diego, CA where John was the director of the Mormon Battalion Visitors Center. John and Carol loved meeting the visitors that came to Old Town and the Temple in San Diego. They grew to love the people and missionaries they worked with and were an influence for good as they shared their testimonies of Jesus Christ and His Restored Gospel.
In addition to serving as a missionary John served in many different callings in the LDS church. He grew close to the members of the Manila 1st Ward when he served as their Bishop. He also enjoyed serving as a Branch President at the Provo Missionary Training Center.
His family will always remember his love and devotion for his eternal companion Carol. She was always by his side as they raised their family and served others. He loved his children and grandchildren with all his heart. He had a strong bond with his brothers and sisters and cared for his nieces and nephews as if they were his own. He was a man of integrity and honesty and admired by many.
John loved classic Fords, animals, BYU sports, country music, rodeos, fishing, gardening and his country. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family. John and Carol have many dear friends that have meant so much to them. In recent years they loved making new friends as they spent their winters at their home in St. George.
John was greeted on the other side by his parents; brother, Paul and many other beloved family members. He is survived by his wife Carol and his children: Tammy (Lonny) Northrup, Ann (Mike) Lichfield, Carl (Kathy) Linebaugh, Janet (Jeff) Barlow, Chad (Amber) Linebaugh, Emma (Jimmy) Velasquez; 20 grandchildren and 15 great grand children. He is also survived by his sisters Jane Robinson, Jean Bone (Ken), Truma (Brad) Harding and many nieces and nephews.
John left a great example for all of us to follow. We are grateful for his love, kindness and testimony of our Savior Jesus Christ. We know we will be together forever!
