John Neal Hilton, of Pleasant Grove, passed away Sat., Nov. 6, 2010 at his home after a brief illness.He was born July 11, 1924 in Pleasant Grove, to Joseph Clarence and Gladys Muriel Richins Hilton. He married Josephine Madsen on Dec. 16, 1948 and their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on Dec. 1, 1954.
John served in the Pacific Theater in WWII from 1943-1946. He worked for the Postal Service in Pleasant Grove for 30 years, retiring in 1984 and for three local banks as a courier for many years until he retired in Oct. 2010.
He was an active member of the LDS church and served for many years as ward clerk. He was a temple ordinance worker at the Provo and Mt. Timpanogos Temples.
John was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and was a true friend to everyone. He was a dedicated worker all his life. He enjoyed music and played the saxophone in a dance band in the 1940's. He loved to work on cars, starting with his original Model T, and camping and fishing with his family.
He is survived by his children: Judie (Roger) Ard, of Meridian, ID, Gerrie (Larry) Thornton, of Burrville, Jay Hilton, of Boise, ID, Val (Dell) Hilton, of Woodbridge, VA, and Ben (Kathy) Hilton, of Pleasant Grove; 22 grandchildren; 53 great-grandchildren and 14 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Claire Huish; twin brother, Joe Hilton; and brother, Glade Hilton.
Preceded in death by his wife, Josephine; brother, Barney Hilton; and sister, Phyllis Holien.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday Nov. 11, 2010 at the Timpanogos First Ward Chapel, 520 North 400 East, Pleasant Grove. Viewing from 6-8 p.m. on Wed. Nov. 10, 2010 at Olpin Family Mortuary, 494 South 300 East, Pleasant Grove, and one hour prior to services on Thursday.
Interment will be in Pleasant Grove City Cemetery.
