Iva Don Shumway Remund - 8/18/2008

Class of 1934

Iva Don Shumway Remund, age 92 of Midway, Utah, died peacefully on August 18, 2008 of natural causes. She was born on August 1, 1916 in Kanab, Utah, to Jedediah Grant Shumway and Mary Elizabeth Robinson Shumway. She married Grant Remund on July 23, 1941 in the St. George LDS Temple.

Iva Don is survived by four sons and a daughter: Paul (Gwen) Salt Lake City; Richard, Denver; RaNae Jessop (Craig) North Salt Lake; Roy (Martha) Midway; Harold (Vickie) Midway; 20 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.

Iva Don graduated from Kanab High School in 1934, studied 2 years at Dixie College and at age 19 served an LDS mission in the North Central States Mission. She then graduated from Brigham Young University in 1939. She taught second grade at Midway Elementary for two years, then decided Midway was too cold and returned to break her contract. She met her sweetheart Grant at a dance and he later convinced her to stay in Midway for the rest of her life.

Grant and Iva Don served 5 missions together for the LDS Church at Temple Visitors Centers in Hawaii, Los Angeles and St. George. Iva Don always had a strong testimony of the gospel and enjoyed in-depth gospel study and discussion. She served in each of the church auxiliaries throughout her life. She insured that the dairy operation ran smoothly and supported her husband in his life’s pursuits.

Her personal interests included oil painting, reading, making homemade bread, quilting, collecting family histories, the deer hunt, and spending time with her family.
