Alta Haycock Porter, 91, died November 23, 2006 in Murray Utah surrounded by her family. She moved to Murray 2 years ago when her health began to fail. She was born October 19, 1915 in Kanab, Utah to Samuel Thomas Haycock and Mary Elizabeth Swapp Haycock. She is the youngest and last surviving of 10 children.Alta attended school in Kanab graduating from Kanab High School. She attended BAC (now Southern Utah University) in Cedar City, Utah.
She married Clyde Lavon (Sid) Porter January 20, 1939. The marriage was solemnized in the St. George temple on March 22, 1944. Sid died January 7, 1992. They made their home in Cedar City, except during Sid's service during WWII, when she and her son stayed in Kanab.
She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints serving in both ward and stake positions. She was a member of the Cedar First Ward for over 60 years.
She enjoyed her job as bookmobile secretary for Iron County. Reading was her passion. She was a charter member of the Chere Amies Literary Club, an association she enjoyed for 50 years. She was also a proud member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers.
Mom loved caring for and worrying about her family and everyone else. She was a great cook and was famous for her chocolate cake, homemade bread, and brownies.
She is survived by daughters Sheri (Earl) Levanger and Kae (Bill) Cairns. Preceded in death by husband Sid, daughter LuAnn, son Barry, and granddaughter Michelle. She has 10 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
