Jean Beal Berry Hughes age 75 passed away in Beaver, Utah on Tuesday, August 10, 2010 at her home surrounded by her loving family. Jean was born on August 9, 1935 in Cedar City, Utah to Dr. John Henry and Gwen Hunter Beal. She grew up in Cedar City, UT where she enjoyed spending time at the farm in Cedar Valley and loved spending her summers on Summit Mountain, working with the sheep and cows. She loved working with her dad traveling throughout the western United States to show their prize winning animals they raised. She worked for years as a dental assistant at her fathers dental practice, before purchasing "Berry's Western Shop" on main street in Cedar City, where she sold western apparel for many years. Jean enjoyed life, being outdoors, water skiing, snowmobiling and spending time laughing with her family and friends.Jean married Gaylen W. Berry March 26, 1955 in Cedar City, UT they were later divorced. She later married Archie Hughes in Mesquite, NV where they lived and she worked for several years at the Oasis Hotel Casino as a gaming auditor. Jean was involved in rodeo most of her life. She enjoyed watching her kids and grand kids as was known by many as "Rodeo Mom", all the cowboys and cowgirls knew she would feed and give them a place to stay. She was secretary and timer of iron rangers rodeos for years and years.
Jean is survived by her son John W. Berry (Cedar City), her daughter Cindy (Marty) Haynie (Giddings, TX). Four grand kids, Amber and Edge Berry and Stormie and Quade Haynie, one sister Frances Christensen (St. George, UT).
The family would like to express extreme gratitude to Dr. Roger Smith of Beaver , Beaver Hospice and Beaver Hospital Staff for their kindness that they have shown to Mom.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, August 14th 2010 at 12:00 pm at Southern Utah Mortuary located at 190 North 300 West in Cedar City, Utah. A Visitation will be held August 13th, 2010 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Southern Utah Mortuary and again August 14th, 2010 at 10:30 to 11:30 a.m prior to services at the Southern Utah Mortuary. Interment will be in the Cedar City Cemetery all under the direction of Southern Utah Mortuary.
