James Burns, age 52, saddled up one last time and rode into the morning sun on July 3, 2005. He was born in Nephi, Utah, on April 10, 1953.He attended South Elementary, Cedar High School, Southern Utah State College and received his Juris Doctorate from the Old College School of Law, Reno, Nevada, in 1985.
Jim was happiest when he was palling around with his children while offering praise and wisdom. He enjoyed a hot cup of coffee on a cold mountain morning and riding the trails and ridges of Cottonwood on a sure-footed horse.
Jim was a cowboy, an athlete, a hardrock miner, a city manager, a horse trainer and a fighter (in and out of the ring); he was a scholar, a political junkie, and always a champion of the underdog. Jim Burns was many things, but most of all he was a loving and proud father to his Jack, Jill and Beth.
He is survived by his son Jack and daughters Jillian Burns Hymas and Bethany Burns. He is also survived by two beautiful grandchildren, Carmen Burns and Hayden Hymas, his mother Connie Burns, his brothers Joe and Scott Burns, his niece Carly Burns and nephews Joe and Nicholas Burns. He also leaves behind his trusted dog Henry. Jim was preceded in death by his brother Zachary and his father, the Honorable J. Harlan Burns.
