Pablo Juan Husselbee - 4/24/2010
Class of 2007
Pablo Juan ("P.J.") Husselbee, 20, who traveled the world but called Cedar City his home, died on Saturday, April 24, 2010.P.J. was born on July 9, 1989, in Johnstown, Pa., to Loren Paul Husselbee and Ana Diaz Martinez. He spent his early years in Pennsylvania, Utah, Ohio and Texas. He attended second grade while living with his grandparents in Spain, where he grew to love "fútbol" and "El Barça" (Barcelona), his favorite club team in the Spanish First Division.
While attending Cedar Middle School in 2003, he scored in the 90th percentile nationally on the Junior SAT and was invited to the National Junior Leaders Conference in Washington D.C. During the four-day conference, he spent time with Rep. Jim Matheson at the Capitol while learning about national defense, intelligence and diplomacy.
He graduated from Cedar High School in 2007. At Cedar High, he was a member of the football team for four years, including the Region 9 championship team during his senior season. His coach, Todd Peacock, frequently referred to P.J. as an exemplary player who worked as hard as anyone on the field, put team goals before personal goals, and was always ready to contribute when called upon.
He attended Southern Utah University and worked at Southwest Plumbing Supply before being called to serve in the Germany Hamburg Mission for the LDS Church. He loved teaching the Gospel in Germany and always gave his personal best. He was honorably released from missionary service in 2009.
P.J. loved to read; his favorite authors were Tom Clancy and JRR Tolkien, and he loved anything to do with Star Wars. He was adept at building complex models of buildings, spacecraft and navy vessels. He loved history, especially World War II history, and was delighted with his mission call to Germany.
P.J. was an example to all when it came to loving, honoring and sustaining his mother. He was devoted to his sister Alicia, with whom he constantly joked and teased back and forth. He also enjoyed getting together with his Dad to watch their beloved Pittsburgh Steelers on TV or going to Southern California for Angels or Dodgers games.
In all endeavors, P.J.'s legacy was that he was never afraid of hard work and always gave his best effort.
He is survived by his parents, Paul Husselbee and Ana Diaz; two brothers, Miguel Andres and Mateo David, and a sister, Alicia Belen, all of Cedar City; grandparents Patricia Husselbee-Hurst of Silverton, Ore., and Andres Diaz Lasso and Josefa Martinez Torres of Lorca, Spain; his cousin and close friend, Timothy Husselbee, of Salem, Ore.; and numerous friends and colleagues.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, John Alan Husselbee Sr.
The family wishes to thank Mike Green and all of P.J.'s friends and colleagues at Southwest Plumbing Supply for their help, love and support.
