As the school year draws to a close, many Grand County High School seniors are deciding where they want to go to further their education. Donna Snow is one such senior, and has been awarded a prestigious scholarship for her high achievements during high school.
Of the many talented students in Grand County, Snow is one of the most remarkable. She is the daughter of Wade and Tammy Snow, and has been highly active in her school and community. Snow has been named a GCHS Student of the Month during her senior year, is a member of National Honor Society, and was the runner-up in the Southeast Utah Sterling Scholar competition, in the Social Sciences category. In addition to her stellar performance in the classroom, Snow has also made a name for herself in many school activities, and is devoted to giving back to her community.
Snow has played on the high school soccer, basketball and softball teams, and has played city league indoor soccer and softball with the traveling team in summer. She has been an active member of her school theater community, appearing in “Fiddler on the Roof,” “Footloose,” and had a major role in this year’s production, “Seven Brides for Seven Brothers.” She also served on the junior prom committee, and even helped organize a mock election at the high school before the November 2012 election.
Despite her many activities and achievements, Snow still makes time to give back to her community. In addition to being a member of the National Honor Society, Snow has volunteered at the annual Pumpkin Chuckin’ Festival twice, has been a volunteer with the Moab Half Marathon for three years in a row and has been an activity director for a 4-H teen council day camp and volunteered with the child abuse awareness carnival.
It comes as little surprise then that Snow’s many achievements have earned her a prestigious $500 Family and Consumer Science scholarship to a school of her choice, sponsored by the Family Career and Community Leaders of America.
Snow has applied to Snow College, Southern Utah University, and Utah State University, but says she plans to attend Utah State University as it is the only public school in Utah which offers her a degree in Family and Consumer Science. Snow hopes to become the first in her family to complete a four-year degree, and said she wants to become a Family and Consumer Science teacher.
