This year’s softball team had already started out amazing. More girls showed up to practices than ever before, and the team, led by seven seniors, made a promising path to state.
As the year progressed, the softball team continued to strive for perfection. Their first games against Cyprus, a 5A team, started the season off right with two wins in their pocket. However, at the first region game against San Juan, the Lady Devils had their first loss, 8-7. The season continued on with wins and losses. The Lady Devils finished 4-4 in region play, tying them with Richfield for second place. However, Grand won a coin toss between the two schools and will go into the state tournament as the No. 2 seed from Region 15.
Now they are just back from their final games before state, the Swing For Life Tournament in Salt Lake April 26-27. They won five, lost two, and tied one game during the tournament, which helps raise money for breast cancer research. Grand is always one of the biggest donors of money and received a prize this year for raising the most money. The Lady Devils raised a total of $3,500 this year.
Softball this year has been an overall great experience for the girls on the team. The state tournament happens on May 9-11 in Spanish Fork, and the Grand County softball team will be there for the excitement!
