Laryel Tahbo passed away in his sleep on November 22, 2013, at the age of 52.Laryel is survived by his wife Tammy; his daughters - Karissa (Dale) Smith and Melissa (Colt) Chilcoat; and grandsons Micheal & Damien Duke Smith. Laryel had a large family whose names are too numerous to list.
Laryel lived most of his life in Kingman, graduated KHS in 1980. He was a career firefighter with the Hualapai Valley Fire Department. He was an EMT and arson investigator, a juvenile fire starter educator, and a swift water and technical rescuer. He retired in 2002.
He volunteered for the MCSO Search & Rescue Unit and as a technical rescuer for Arizona Department of Public Safety. He received the DPS Citizen's Distinguished Service Award. He also worked for Sutton Funeral Home, Echo Building Materials, Kingman Airport Authority and Grand Canyon West Airport. He was also owner of 4T's Cards, Comics & Stuff.
Laryel was a member of St. Johns United Methodist Church; time was spent on youth and mission trips; including going to Guatemala to help build a school room.
A celebration of life will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 1, at St. Johns United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Tammy Tahbo account 3060895033 at Chase Bank so that the family can decide on a memorial gift for the community. The family has been deeply touched by everyone's support during this time, especially from fellow firefighters. We are in awe and thank you all so much.
