The Flagstaff Eagles are fighting through one of the toughest stretches of their schedule.

Four games in four days with players fighting the flu makes for a whole bunch of adversity for the Eagles.

Flagstaff fought through the first of four games this week to get a 60-39 win over a pesky Mohave (Bullhead City) team that actually led early.

Flagstaff led 12-9 after the first quarter but didn't have its usual energy until head coach James Kirk started subbing players in off the bench. The move paid off as the Eagles scored 18 in the second quarter while holding Mohave to just one point for a 30-10 halftime lead.

Kirk said he was thrilled with his bench players, and he thought they executed a lot better than his starters Tuesday night.

"We knew everybody has to be ready to play and they did it," Kirk said. "David Wigton and Lyle West, Brett Morrow and Christian Baraga, all those guys coming off the bench, that was big. We just need a few good minutes from everybody, and that's what'll get us through a week like this." The Flagstaff bench scored 39 of the team's points, led by 12 from Morrow -- he added six rebounds and two blocks -- while Baraga followed with 11 points including three from behind the 3-point line.

Flagstaff's starters struggled to get 21 points, led by eight from Bailey Stephens.

Kirk said some of the team have caught the flu bug, and are struggling to get through games.

"Some guys are battling some bugs, the flu's going around, but we came out and got the win; that's the most important thing," he said.

Flagstaff faltered a little in the third quarter with its starting five back on the floor -- Mohave outscored the Eagles 13-7 -- but rebounded with a 23-point fourth quarter. Baraga hit all of his 3-pointers in the fourth to seal the win for Flagstaff.

Also having a big night off the bench for Flagstaff was Kaleb Sandoval, who had seven points. Sandoval finished the first half with a pair of steals that he took coast to coast for easy layups.

"Our transition game early was good and that's really what got us started," Kirk said.

Kirk added the defense played well, but the team being bogged down with sickness really led to losing some of the hustle plays to the Thunderbirds.

"I thought that was because some of our guys weren't digging in and fighting," he said. "They got three or four early shots, but we had a good second quarter. Once we subbed in off the bench, that's when we got some of our best energy."

The Eagles continue the long week at Kingman today, at Prescott Thursday before returning home to face Page on Friday.
