Boys Basketball Overpowers Mingus

BOYS BASKETBALL

The Flagstaff boys shot 21 free throws in the first half, held Mingus Union (Cottonwood) to just two pionts in the third quarter and beat the Marauders 66-32 on the road.

The Eagles (4-3) pulled its starters after the third quarter -- Flagstaff hosts Winslow and assistant coach David Brown said the Eagles want enough energy for that game -- and the teams struggled through a 7-5 Mingus-led fourth quarter.

"We played well and it was a physical game in the first half," Brown said. "We shot all but four of our free throws in the first half because we got them in foul trouble."

To start the second half, Flagstaff pressed and played good team defense according to Brown, and Mingus threw the ball away.

"Our defense shut them down and they couldn't handle our pressure," Brown said. Trevor Johnson led the Eagles with 28 points while freshman Kaleb Sandoval added 15 points.

The Eagles host Winslow at 7 p.m. tonight.
