The Eagles could seemingly do no wrong during the second cross-town rivalry match of the year at Coconino's Cromer Stadium Tuesday.

Flagstaff blanked the Panthers 3-0 in the teams' first meeting a little under a month ago and the Eagles' (4-0) 5-0 win over Coconino earned Flagstaff the season's bragging rights.

Flagstaff showcased its dominance from the opening kickoff by possessing the ball, keeping Coconino (3-4) inside its own 40 and 50 yard line for most of the match and by putting shot after shot on the Panthers goal.

Flagstaff finally cashed in on its offense with an Andy Dean goal just over 10 minutes into the match.

Flagstaff had already put five shots on goal that Coconino keeper Caitlyn Power had to save, and the Eagles finished the match with 42 shots. Powers had 21 saves in the loss.

Flagstaff head coach Jenna Samora said her Eagles learned a lot during a tournament Flagstaff participated in over Christmas, and added the team is trying to build off what lessons it took there.

"We've been working on building from the back and playing a possession-based game, and it was nice to see the girls get a few through balls and nice to see them connect in the offensive one-third," Samora said.

Flagstaff's passing game was dead on, and Coconino paid for the Eagles aggressiveness and accuracy by watching the Eagles not only shoot open shots but score on easy goals.

"Caitlyn played phenomenal and it was one of the best games I think I've seen her play," said Coconino coach Kelli Lentz about her keeper. "We were missing some key factors in our defense, but our defenders stepped up and they've done that all year through injuries and sickness. They've all stepped up and have made it work."

Flagstaff peppered the Panthers defense -- which at times had seven or eight girls back trying to stop the Eagles attack -- with a quick-paced attack and Lentz said that type of match is something her girls need to learn how to adjust to.

"Our main focus for (Tuesday) was to battle from start to finish and I think we did that," Lentz said, "but as far as our momentum, Flagstaff is a fast team and when we did get momentum we weren't getting up (the field) fast enough. We were on defense a lot, and when we were on the attack it didn't really go anywhere. We couldn't get an attack going."

The Eagles scored two more goals in the first half, the first a Shelby O'Connor goal on a pass from Ashley Christopher, and the second a shot off the foot of Cheyenne Falz with just over 5 minutes to play.

Flagstaff's first-half lead allowed the Eagles to adjust a few things, and Samora said the adjustments made a difference in the second half. "I don't think Coconino necessarily fell off," she said. "We made some adjustments and that could have had something to do with it as far as our substitutions."

Flagstaff struck twice in the second half as Katherine Davison scored on a rebound shot off a Flagstaff corner kick and Christopher put one past Power with about 7 minutes left in the match.

While Power and the defense had all they could handle with Flagstaff's offense, Coconino couldn't get an attack going at all. Alyssa Treptow and Nicki Spoelman had a combined one save on three total Coconino shots.

Samora's keepers didn't get to see much action, but the first-year Flagstaff coach noted Power's performance.

"Their goalie did an awesome job," Samora said. "She kept them in the game for a long time and had some amazing saves, and they should be proud of her.

"As far as our girls shooting, I'm never angry about any shot they take, we're just trying to get them to shoot a little quicker," Samora added.

While the Eagles remain unbeaten, Tuesday's loss was the second-straight for Coconino, which lost 2-0 to Mingus Monday.

The Eagles travel to Sedona to take on the Red Rock Scorpions at 3 p.m. Thursday while Coconino travels to Apache Junction for a 4 p.m. match Friday.
