The unbeaten Flagstaff High School girls soccer team scored three times in the first nine minutes Monday night in Page and rolled to a 10-1 win.

The Eagles had two goals each from three players in a dominating effort that improved their record to 3-0 in power points matches and 8-0 overall. They were just happy to be playing on a dry field at 4,300 feet elevation after a weekend snowstorm blanketed Flagstaff.

“It was nice to get away from the snow for a little bit,” head coach Jenna Samora said. “It was still cold but it was nice to have a field to play on.”

FHS needed little time to get rolling. Katherine Davison headed in a well-placed corner kick from Taylor Turner with three minutes, 36 seconds elapsed. Three minutes later, Northland Prep transfer Meg O’Brien rocketed a loose ball in the penalty area past Page goalkeeper Lindsay Wood. In the 9th minute, Ashley Christopher made it 3-0 on an assist from Shelbie O’Connor.

After Christopher connected again in the 15th minute from O’Connor, Samora began substituting liberally. The Eagles still managed to put up a nine-spot in the first half and outshoot the Sand Devils 16-0.

“I’m very happy with how they played in the first half,” Samora said. “They were connecting, they were possessing, and overall they did a great job.  That’s what we’ve been aiming for, is how they play in that half.”

Page (1-3) got on the board when Brittany Tso lofted a free kick from about 25 yards over the head of the Eagle keeper. Tso has scored all six of her team’s goals.

The Sand Devils (2-5-1 overall) struggled to keep pace with an Eagle lineup that switched field adeptly and had two goals each from Christopher, O’Brien and Guinan. O’Brien hit the crossbar twice in the second half before scoring again with two minutes to play.

The Eagles, who have outscored opponents 44-5, travel to Bullhead City Mohave next Friday. Page will participate in the Arizona Showcase Dec. 27-31.
